To achieve this Polestar will:
  • Ensure that every business is aware of and has assessed the immediate environment and the impact of its’ actions whilst carrying out its’ operations;;
  • Monitor our performance by means of regular risk appraisal and audit undertaken or arranged by the Company ’s Environmental Committee. Where unsatisfactory environmental performance is identified, corrective actions will be undertaken;
  • Continue to identify the key environment impacts arising from our operations and where unacceptable seek to prevent, reduce or minimize these through the use of appropriate technology and improved management control;
  • Continue to place importance on wider aspects of environmental performance and to discuss and participate in relevant issues with our suppliers, customers and neighbours;
  • Seek to make effective use, and minimize consumption of raw materials, including paper, ink, polythene and energy.

1. Awareness and Assessment:

Annual review of Organisation to ensure local assessment is taking place, and maintaining and comparing Company-wide Key Performance Indicators

2. Identification by Internal Audits:

Bi-annual risk appraisal and audit by qualified internal Polestar auditors

3. Key Impacts Recognition:

Regular discussion in the Steering Group about potential infringements

4. Legislation:

Regular discussion in the Steering Group about present and future legislation and allied matters

5. External review of environmental performance:

Commitment to WWF – Forest Trade Network wood products survey

6. Minimise use of raw materials:

Energy reduction = 10 businesses, in UK, in agreement with UK Government through BPIF Climate Change Levy scheme to pursue a 10 year plan (2000-2010) to reduce KwH per sq meter of paper / board used by approximately 16%, with commensurate reduction in Carbon used
Paper – All waste white and coloured paper is collected on site and sent for recycling
Ink – All waste inks are collected on site by a specialist certified waste treatment company (J & G Environmental)
Packaging Waste Regulations – In a compliance scheme with Veolia Environmental Services, formerly known as Onyxpak, to ensure proper returns made to commitments given under the legislation.
